Spine is bumped and has a light vertical crease. Boards are lightly rubbed. Booksellers ink stamp to rear pastedown. Endpapers slightly browned. Foxing to prelims and page edges. Dustwrapper is edge worn. Spine is faded and rear panel is grubby. A little foxing to verso.

- Biggles is visited by 'Jumbo' Grimes, whose son used to serve in his old squadron in the Western Desert. 'Jumbo' gives information which leads Biggles to conclude that Jumbo empoyers have discovered the Starry Crown, a ship which contains a horde of gold.
- Leaving Algy and Bertie on the Falkland Islands as their South Atlantic base, Biggles, Ginger and Grimes Senior and Junior make a risky landing in the Antarctic, and so the adventure begins.
